Skiye Sounds Reborn

As you can see, it has been quite some time since I have musicated a blog! Wow, has there been quite a bit since then to update you all on - for those who care to find out anyway of course. *wink*

Lets get reacquainted! The SkiyeSounds Site has had a complete overhaul and is quite unique I'd say. Still have to write up a decent mobile version since this new version utilizes some neat javascript tricks and requires a mouse hover-over to navigate...but none-the-less proud of it. It is the mist unique website I have coded to date. Anyway, enough of the computer stuff, that's for the SkiyeLab feed. Onto the music stuffs.
Since my last post much has happened, although, not enough musically. "Malfunction Junction" was released as well as the "Funk Dub EP" and I have begun work on the new album which will focus on the blues genre as a basis to be titled "A Bluer New". For works in progress you can visit the page in my site for news and updates. I have also created my own sort of SkiyeTunes page that allows you to preview and/or download full length tracks as well as download my entire catalog of albums by selecting the desired style or album from the drop down menu thus making the desired content appear on the page.

In the mean time I have been doing some cover tracks and collaborations which can be found either on my YouTube channel or my SoundCloud page. Cover tracks include "The Thrill Is Gone" and "Stormy Monday" on YouTube as well as my first track for the new blues album "Wilin' Riley's Cafe Azul". Another for this new blues styled album is my take on a classic, what I consider to be the epitome of "the blues" that I call "Maggot Lungs" of course after the Funkadelic title track to their album "Maggot Brains" which features the amazing Eddie Hazel playing the bluest of blues.

Aside from making new music, I have also had some changes in equipment and recording process since those days which can be found in more detail on this page of my site. Fully hi-fidelity recording! Whoa!!!

New guitars and new connections made have been made as well. Brilliant metal sculptor and creator of Dread Metals Guitarmour - James Dread has quickly become a true friend and a true artist. The #Guitarmour he creates to not only protect your guitar, but make it look absolutely incredible! Can't wait for my DM Peacemaker. You should really check out some of his other pieces up there on DeviantArt or on the Dread Facebook page. Stellar guy, true friend!

Also in the process of creating an innovation I call the "Stringamajig" with James' help which I'll post a separate blog on soon: it is a guitar that is unlike any other guitar to have ever existed...to my knowledge. Expected to be playing this monster by the end of this May. Have a little body work to do on it, then mounting and wiring up the electrical components, ordering myself a cheeky Dread Metals Guitarmour pick guard to cover up the new format of the pups, pots, toggle and jack....Gah, ok - I'll start on the separate blog for this innovation of music-kind. :)

What is the absolute, hands-down most ingenious guitar accessory I own now? That award goes to *drumrolllllllllll* - Creative Tuning's "SpiderCapo". This genius capo lets you capo each string individually, like a regular full capo and any of the ginormous number of combinations in between! Probably one of the most innovative, imagination inspiring guitar accessories that I have come across in some time.

So, I'll leave you with this page of epic-ness:

Quite a read, I know. Always more to come musically - already almost finished up track 3 for "A Bluer New", and that's just the beginning of a whole new world of SkiyeSongs.

Stay Tuned.......! Ha!

Much Love ~

A Few New Noises For A New Project

Just finished up mixing/mastering my latest track "On My Mind" this weekend. This track is the second in my latest musical venture geared towards exploring sound, genres, keys and time - as always. "On My Mind" is reminiscent of some older Skiyeworks - almost a combination of "Fuse" and "Take Anything" - taking on a more classically inspired form with stringed accompaniments and melodies in major keys. The one other track currently available, entitled "Abominable Bumble", is a sort of avant-rock Sonny Sharrock inspired improvisational introduction followed by the buzzing of the mighty bumble around your speakers/headphones. This track closes with a resonant guitar solo that echoes through the deep caverns straight to your waiting ears.

All of my new tracks and oddities can be found here:

HTML5 compatible browsers have the luxury of listening right in the webpage, all else, check the mp3 links under the song title...and enjoy!!! :)
